For many people, cathing can feel uncomfortable or even painful at first. This does not mean you are doing it wrong. However, once you get past this initial stage it should no longer feel bad at all and children as young as five are able to self catheterize. However, remember that once it feels like second nature, you should still be gentle and careful to prevent any damage.
