When an infection spreads up from your bladder, it is called an ‘upper UTI’.
Though not common, and totally treatable, an upper UTI can be serious if left untreated, as it can damage the kidneys or spread to the bloodstream.
Seek medical attention immediately if you, or someone in your care, experiences the following:
- A high temperature (fever) of 38ºC (100.4ºF) or above
- Pain in your sides or back
- Shivering and chills
- Being sick
- Confusion
- Agitation or restlessness
Always consult your healthcare professional concerning your medical condition.
